Alan Graham- Farm manager
Alan Graham joined the IWAD team through Agric Cane Consultants as Nucleus farm manager in January, 2016. Previously, Alan owned and managed the entire commercial operation of an intensive 500ha farm in Zimbabwe producing cotton, soya beans, maize, seed maize, tobacco, paprika and sorghum with 300ha under irrigation in the summer. In the winter, wheat and seed peas were grown under irrigation. With a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Business Economics, Alan brings with him 25years of farming experience. He manages a state of the art irrigation scheme for IWAD in Yagaba which is comprised of 4 centre pivots each irrigating 65ha, 99ha of MDL (Modified Drip Line irrigation) using sprinklers, a drip irrigation system covering 15ha used for seed trials and market gardening and a furrow irrigation system which flood irrigates 40ha of land for rice production. This is a total of 414ha of irrigated land. Alan is also responsible for a 200 strong farm workforce together with a farm assistant, 2 irrigation supervisors, 7 field assistants and an administration team of 2 in the farm office.
Mathew Sukoro – Farm Foreman
Mathew has background in BSc agricultural technology. He comes on board with 9 years working experience in the field of agriculture. Mathew is with IWAD Gh as the farm foreman of the company’s nucleus farm estate. In 2014, he worked as a technical officer for the conservation farming unit of IWAD where he successfully facilitated and supervised 10 demonstration field in communities in and around Yagaba where the project site is located. He also has 3 years’ experience working with Wienco Cotton Ghana Limited where he served as cotton production assistant. 2010-2011 he served as assistant office and field engineer/ postharvest technologist with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA). Between 2008 and 2010 Mathew worked as claims officer/ field supervisor at the Northern Empowerment Association- Carpenta. It is a result of his theoretical and practical experience in the field of agriculture that has earned him his position with IWAD today.
Chennu Sankaran – Workshop Manager:
ChennuSankaran, comes along over 34 years working experience in mechanics. Sankaran served 15 years as Chief Rig Mechanic in Saudi Arabia, 10 years experience as a senior mechanic in GRM International Private Ltd Co in India where he handled mechanism of all types of vehicles. He has also worked as workshop foreman for 2 years in Agricane Ltd SL for a 10,000ha ethanol project at Addax Bioenergy in Sierra Leone and another 1 year as workshop manager in Agricane Ltd Malawi. Sankaran has also acquired a month’s experience as Chief Mechanic to shift the RIG from Kuwait to Iran. Hence, Sankaran’s experiences in various aspects of the mechanics field in different countries is what has earned him the position of a workshop manager today with about 9 mechanics under his supervision. Sankaran ensures all vehicle and equipment of IWAD are maintained and all break downs fixed within the shortest possible time.
Clifford Salifu Danse – Drip Irrigation Supervisor
Clifford Danse, is an agricultural technologist who brings on board working experience over5years. From 2016 till date he has been working as adrip irrigation supervisor with IWAD. In 2015, Clifford worked as a project support officer with IWAD. He has got 1year experience as a project manager with Richie plantations limited (technical service providers for the SADA mango project in northern Volta). From 2012-2014, he worked as a northern zonal officer for Pentax Management Consultancy services Limited, Tamale. Clifford also has 1 year experience working as a WASH facilitator during his national service with World Vision(Ghana Rural Water Project) now GI-WASH. His career development he has 2 years volunteering experience with MOFA and World Vision while having 3 years’ experience as a student researcher with the University for Development studies . Clifford’s long and short term of working experience in the field of management and technical assistance is what has gained him his position with IWAD today.
Lucas Abuntori – Irrigation System Supervisor
Lucas comes on board with about 6 years working experience. He has a background studies in mechanical engineering with specialization in automobile engineering. Lucas joined the IWAD team in 2014 as an irrigation system supervisor and has successfully ensured all equipment and components of the irrigation are working properly. He operates various automated irrigation systems including centre pivots, drip systems, modified drag line sprinklers and furrows. In 2014, Lucas worked as a field marketing executive with Samsung Ghana Limited in Tamale. Between 2011 and 2012 he did his national service with the Tamale Teaching Hospital with the clinical (biomedical) engineering unit where he was in charge of routine maintenance of medical equipment, installation of medical equipment among others. Lucas has short term working experience with the Ghana Highways Authority, metro mass transit and village water resource auto service limited all in Tamale where he did industrial attachments while in school. Hence, Lucas’ short term and long term experience in the field of engineering is what has earned him a job with IWAD Ghana as the irrigation system supervisor today.
